Iyengar Yoga Therapeutics Class
Fridays, 2:00-4:00pm

This is an on-going class for yoga students with chronic or complex conditions that prevent them from participating in a general class. Some examples are joint pain or dysfunction, heart or blood pressure conditions, cancer and recovery from surgeries that require modifications beyond the scope of a general class. Yoga therapeutic methods are based on principles of yoga, scientific data, and the experience of Yoga teachers, and they are not, as yet considered standard treatments in mainstream medicine or physical therapy.

The class is designed to work specifically and personally with each student to:

 •  Manage pain and discomfort
 •  Increase strength, flexibility, and range of motion
 •  Address specific chronic conditions in a progressive way to enhance optimum health and well-being
 •  Learn the art of relaxation

To be considered for the course, students must fill out an online application and be willing to commit to eight consecutive weeks of class.

Jito Yumibe

Certified at Senior I, Level 3 Iyengar Yoga Instructor Jito began her studies of Iyengar yoga in the early 80s. She has made several trips to study with the Iyengar family in India from the mid 80s through December of 2019. For these trips she is ever grateful and inspired.

Jito observed and later assisted in the medical classes in Pune, observing the therapeutic application of Iyengar yoga. Seeing the Iyengar family and their assistants help people by offering them hope for their conditions and inspired her to learn more about the healing benefits of yoga. In the States in 2017 she completed four years of training with Manouso Manos through the Iyengar Yoga Therapeutics program in Los Angeles. She continues to take therapeutic workshops offered by them and has also studied with Lois Steinberg by attending her yearly week long therapeutics training in 2021. For her on-going studies in yoga she has attended online weekly classes with Patricia Walden and continues to study weekly online with Corine Biria. She has been teaching Iyengar yoga locally and continuously since the mid 80s as well as conducting Teacher Training and mentoring students for certification.
