About Iyengar Yoga
B.K.S. Iyengar, author of Light on Yoga and Light on Pranayama, is recognized throughout the world for his genius and creativity in the art of yoga. In the Iyengar system, classical yoga postures are taught with an emphasis on dynamic precision and alignment, aided when appropriate by various props to maximize opening and awareness. Through the emphasis on alignment, one's mind is focused on the action and feeling of the pose, and it naturally becomes more quiet and drawn into the moment. Gradually stability and concentration are developed while the physical body is revitalized, and the process of looking inward is begun.

While we do not teach seated "meditation," as it is an advanced technique unsuitable for the average student, we do teach how to work with awareness to bring the inner and outer worlds in greater contact with each other. As in all forms of yoga, the emphasis is the integration of body, mind, and spirit.
